Thanks for this Brendan. I am somewhat familiar with Gebser and I see resonance with my work and his. And yes, definitely much overlap with Schumacher, although I found his Guide for the Perplexed only in about 2010. I was really struck by how similar it was. Of course, it also is the case that the "rocks, plants, animals, human" taxonomy is arguably the most basic, generalizable taxonomy ever.
